UPDATE May 15:
Beethoven had his first heartworm injection May 7th and left the vet office for a temp foster home. He is on strict cage rest while he heals. He will go back to the vet office June 5th and spend a few days there while he has his next set of injections June 6-7. He will come back on the 8th. He is a great little man, still a bit timid with new situations but is just a love. He takes treats gently from your hand. He has no idea what the inside of a home is like. He is so nervous and from what we can tell, this poor boy has never known love or even a comfy couch. No worries though, as he is learning new things.
We have added some new pictures so you can see how well he is coming along.
Beethoven has gained enough weight to start his heartworm treatment. His legs are healing and we are doing laser therapy on his wounds. He is such a love of all people and is happy to see the vet team every day. We are now looking for a foster home for him so he can heal. We would like him to be the only pet so he can get all the attention and love he clearly never had before.
Beethoven was found stray, frozen, emaciated with gaping open wounds on both of his front legs, nose and tail. We rushed him to the vet and he had a body temp of 94 degrees (dogs run near 100). We started him on warm IV fluids and put him on a warming pad right away. We started to work on cleaning the wounds and assessing all that was wrong with him.
Full blood panel was drawn and we found that Beethoven is anemic, and seeing his state we knew we were looking at that. He was only 38 pounds. His legs are infected and you can see down to the tendons, as is his tail and nose. On top of all of this, he his heartworm positive.
Beethoven's recovery will be long and extensive.
Every time Beethoven sees the vet or tech, he starts wagging his tail and is just so happy to be around people. We all believe he knows he is safe now, and that he will be safe from his past.
